“The opening fixture was non-negotiable, and Meridian planned the entire build backwards from it. Tribune steel, hospitality fit-out, broadcast integration — every package landed on the day they said it would. We sold out opening night because we knew, twelve months out, that the venue would actually be ready.”
Sport & Leisure
Stadiums, arenas, and leisure complexes engineered for performance and atmosphere. Venues that hold tens of thousands and feel personal to every one of them.
A venue is a sequence of opening dates, not just a building
Sport & leisure venues are deadline-driven the way most buildings aren't. The first home fixture, the opening match, the launch event — these dates are not slip-able. Our sport & leisure practice runs every project schedule against the calendar of fixtures, broadcast slots, and tenant move-in dates from week one.
Average sport & leisure project size: $60–220m. We've delivered stadium expansions, multi-event arenas, and hospitality-led venue retrofits. About 14% of our annual revenue comes from this sector, and our delivery record across the last decade is 100% on the contracted opening date.

-
Fixture-aware scheduling
The opening fixture is week zero. Every milestone, every package, every commissioning gate is scheduled backwards from the first ticketed event.
-
Long-span structures
Roofs, cantilevered tribunes, and column-free concourses are our home territory. Our self-perform crews handle long-span steel and concrete in-house.
-
Hospitality-grade fit-outs
Premium hospitality boxes, club lounges, and broadcast-grade studios delivered to event-ready standard, not shell-and-core.
-
Crowd-flow and life-safety modelling
Our in-house team models pedestrian flow, evacuation, and emergency egress against the actual fixture programme — not just code minimum.
-
Broadcast and IT integration
Camera positions, fibre routing, OB compounds, and broadcast power are coordinated from RIBA Stage 3 with the rights-holder and venue operator.
-
Phased opening across precincts
Most venues open the field of play first, then concourses, then external precincts. We sequence handover so each precinct gets its own ORAT window.
Sport & leisure questions
-
What's your record on opening-day delivery?
Across the last decade, every sport & leisure venue we've delivered has opened on the contracted fixture date. Two slipped completion of non-critical precincts (back-of-house circulation, external landscaping) into the post-opening period — agreed with the client up front.
-
Do you self-perform the long-span steel?
For roof structures and primary tribunes, yes — across all our regions. Long-span erection is one of the highest-risk sequences in venue construction, and we don't sub it out.
-
How do you manage broadcast and rights-holder requirements?
We bring the rights-holder (or their nominated venue technical advisor) into the design coordination from RIBA Stage 3. Camera positions, fibre conduits, OB compound size and access, broadcast power, and lighting standards are signed off before we tender the package.
-
Can you retrofit a heritage venue?
Yes. Roughly half our recent sport & leisure work has been retrofit or expansion of existing venues, including listed structures. Our heritage-construction team holds Section 60 / equivalent protocols and works directly with the relevant heritage authority.
Bring the fixture date — we'll work backwards.
The earlier we see the schedule, the more space we have to optimise it. Initial conversations are free, and we'll tell you within a week whether we're the right fit.
