Making vet visits easier for an anxious dog

A nervous dog isn't being difficult — the clinic is full of strange smells, slick floors, and other animals. A little preparation goes a long way, and our team is trained in low-stress handling to do the rest.

Before you come in

  • Take a brisk walk first so your dog arrives a little tired.
  • Bring high-value treats — the ones they only get on special occasions.
  • Skip the meal beforehand if treats are part of the plan (check with us if your dog has a condition that needs regular feeding).

In the waiting room

Keep your dog on a short leash and, if they're reactive, ask us about waiting in the car until a room is ready. We're glad to text you when we're set.

How we help

We move slowly, let dogs settle, and use treats and gentle restraint rather than force. For pets that need it, we can prescribe a mild calming medication to give before the visit. Tell us what frightens your dog and we'll build the appointment around it.
