Cameras and lenses laid out in the studio
The studio

A studio built around people

Lumen is a photography studio working in portrait, editorial and commissioned work. The same team plans the shoot, works the day and finishes the files.

About the studio

We photograph the things worth keeping.

The studio opened above a framer's workshop and still works the way it did then: a steady crew, daylight where the room allows it, and files finished by the same hands that made them.

Commissions run from a single sitting to multi-day editorial. Whatever the scale, the person who takes your first call is on set for the shoot.

How the studio works

  • 01

One conversation before anything is booked

We start with a call about what the pictures are for, where they will live and who needs to be in them. The plan comes out of that conversation.

  • 02

A call sheet everyone can read

Times, locations, permits, crew and the shot list go out before the day, so nobody arrives guessing. Ines keeps it current until the last hour.

  • 03

Two cameras, checked as we go

Nadia holds the principal frame while Theo covers the second angle. Sam checks focus and exposure at the tether so anything off gets caught on set.

  • 04

Finished in the studio, by hand

Marguerite grades the set so it reads as one body of work. A curated preview lands within a week and the full gallery within three.

Working with the studio

  • Nadia leads the camera on every commission. Theo, Ines, Sam and Casper join depending on the scale of the day, and we tell you who is coming when we send the call sheet.

  • Yes. We hold a call with whoever will be on set, so you have met them before the day. Studio visits run Tuesday through Saturday by appointment.

  • Marguerite grades and finishes everything in the studio. The files you receive were handled by the same people who made them.

  • Editorial and commercial work is usually booked six to ten weeks out. Portrait sittings often fit inside a fortnight when a date opens.

  • Yes, across the country and abroad. Travel and accommodation are quoted openly in the estimate.
