Harrington & Co was founded in 2005 and has been serving clients for over 20 years. Our advisors bring an average of 15+ years of individual experience in wealth management, investment strategy, and financial planning.

Yes. While our primary offices are in New York and Greenwich, we serve clients throughout the United States. We offer virtual meetings for clients who prefer the convenience of remote consultations, and our digital reporting and communication tools make it easy to stay connected regardless of location.

Yes. We offer consultations via video conference and phone for clients who prefer the convenience of meeting remotely. Virtual meetings are just as thorough as in-person consultations and are available for all of our services.

Absolutely. Everything you share with us during a consultation is kept strictly confidential, even if you decide not to engage our firm. You can speak freely about your financial situation knowing your information is fully protected.

ADVISORY FEES & BILLING

Understanding costs

We charge a transparent, asset-based advisory fee calculated as a percentage of assets under management. Our fee schedule is tiered — the percentage decreases as your portfolio grows. We provide a clear fee schedule during your discovery call so there are no surprises.

No. We are a fee-only firm, which means we do not earn commissions, referral fees, or any other compensation from financial product providers. Our only source of revenue is the advisory fee our clients pay, ensuring our advice is always aligned with your best interests.

Our wealth management services typically require a minimum of $500,000 in investable assets. For certain planning-only engagements or clients building toward that threshold, we may offer alternative fee arrangements. We are happy to discuss your situation during a discovery call.

Our advisory fee covers investment management, financial planning, and ongoing consultation. However, the underlying investments in your portfolio (such as ETFs or mutual funds) have their own expense ratios, which are charged by the fund companies — not by us. We prioritize low-cost investment vehicles to minimize these expenses.

How we invest

We follow a disciplined, evidence-based approach to investing. We build globally diversified portfolios aligned with each client's specific goals, risk tolerance, and time horizon. We believe in long-term investing, systematic rebalancing, tax efficiency, and maintaining a strategic allocation through market cycles rather than chasing short-term performance.

We use a combination of low-cost index funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and selectively chosen actively managed strategies. For larger portfolios, we may also incorporate individual equities, bonds, and alternative investments where appropriate. Our goal is always to maximize after-tax returns at an appropriate level of risk.

We build risk management into every portfolio from the start through proper diversification, asset allocation, and rebalancing protocols. During periods of market stress, we focus on maintaining your strategic allocation, harvesting tax losses where possible, and identifying opportunities to rebalance into undervalued assets. We communicate proactively during volatile markets to keep you informed and confident.

Yes. We offer values-aligned and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) investment options for clients who want their portfolio to reflect their personal values. We can build a diversified, competitive portfolio that incorporates ESG criteria without sacrificing performance or diversification.

Financial planning

Our comprehensive financial planning covers retirement projections, tax strategy, estate planning coordination, insurance review, education funding, cash flow analysis, and Social Security optimization. We create a written financial plan and update it annually — or whenever your circumstances change significantly.

Absolutely. We work collaboratively with your existing professional team — including your CPA, estate attorney, and insurance advisor — to ensure all aspects of your financial life are coordinated. If you do not have these professionals in place, we can provide referrals to trusted partners in our network.

Yes. Business succession planning is one of our core service areas. We help business owners develop transition strategies, coordinate with M&A advisors and tax attorneys, maximize the after-tax value of a sale, and ensure their personal financial plan remains on track through the transition.

Your financial plan is a living document, not a one-time deliverable. We conduct formal reviews at least annually and adjust your strategy as your life evolves — whether that means a career change, inheritance, marriage, divorce, new business, or shift in goals. Our ongoing relationship ensures your plan always reflects your current reality.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Working with us

We conduct formal portfolio reviews at least quarterly and comprehensive financial plan reviews annually. Between meetings, we are available by phone, email, or video call whenever you have questions or your situation changes. We adapt our communication frequency to your preferences.

You will have 24/7 access to an online portal where you can view your portfolio, performance reports, and financial plan in real time. We also provide quarterly performance summaries and proactive communication during significant market events or tax planning opportunities.

You will be assigned a dedicated lead advisor who will be your primary point of contact throughout our relationship. Your advisor will be supported by our broader team of specialists, but you will always have a single person who knows every detail of your financial situation.

Your relationship is with Harrington & Co, not with any single individual. While we have excellent advisor retention, if a transition ever occurs, we ensure a seamless handoff to another qualified advisor who is fully briefed on your financial situation, goals, and preferences. Your plan and portfolio remain uninterrupted.
