These are the questions he wishes someone had asked him. ## Before you pick a neighborhood - Where will you drive every day, and when? Rush hour on MoPac and I-35 changes the map. - Which school district? Eanes, Austin and Lake Travis ISD differ more than the ratings suggest. - How much yard do you actually want to mow in August? ## Property taxes Texas has no state income tax, and property taxes make up for it. Expect roughly 1.8% to 2.2% of the home's value a year, less the homestead exemption you should file for in your first January. ## The first 90 days Rent for three months if you can. You'll learn which drive you hate and which taco place you'd move for, and your agent can tour homes on video in the meantime.
